How the time flies!

Hello friends!

The last time we reached out to you the year was 2010, we had just relocated back to California, and Chelsea was very pregnant.  Well, throw about 6 months in there, several holidays, a few birthdays (including a real one), and a Happy New Year and here we are!

It's been a wild, wild ride transitioning back to California.  While it has been nothing short of challenging, we can look back with confidence and peace knowing "He who started the good work will be faithful to complete it."  Jesus, Mighty in Strength and Power, was SO Faithful to us in providing during nearly 6 months of unemployment, a rather intense childbirth, the death of two of David's Grandparents, and more.  There is not enough time to completely rehash everything, nor do we want to, but we just want you to know where we are now in our lives and specifically in regards to ministry.

David has had some interesting insight into what the next steps are for ministry.  While he still believes the Lord will use his testimony to touch this generation, he feels strongly that he is not to move the original "heart-pull", reaching out to men stuck in the gay porn industry, to the wayside.

While it would certainly be more comfortable and socially convenient to cast this burden aside, that is rarely the nature of Missional Call of Christ in His disciples lives.  Did He not say go?  Did He not say "the broken-hearted?"  Did He not come for the sick rather than the healthy?  Is He not the Risen Savior, the Living Son of the Most High God?  If so, if all of this and more is true of Him and His mandates - both personally and corporately - do we even have a choice but to obey?  As David's mother adequately puts it, "I can say 'no' to Jesus, but I can't say 'no' to my Lord."  Jesus IS Lord, therefore, we have to obey.

Right now David is focusing his efforts on starting something simple and doable.  A website that will succinctly reach out to the imprisoned soul crying for release.  He is not planning something super flashy right now, but more seeking to post testimonies of hope, truths of the Word, and resources for these trapped men to find release from their physical and spiritual prison.  David has really been struggling for initial vision with this so please pray that the pieces and picture comes together clearly for him as he steps out in faith.  Please also diligently pray for protection.  We, as a family, desperately need it.  The enemy is a thief and a liar and we should never forget that.

On some personal business, we are celebrating almost 4 months since the birth of Grace.  Since words really cannot describe the blessing she is to us, we hope those pictures will help describe it better :).  David is enjoying his new job/career with Larkspur Hotels & Restaurants.  He is currently the Sales & Catering Coordinator at the Larkspur Landing in Roseville.  It's amazing how the Lord graciously provided this job right when hope was starting to slip away.  He LOVES going to work everyday, which is a praise in and of itself, he is appreciated for what he brings to the table, and is challenged to grow on a daily basis.  Praise the Lord for this rich reward!

Financially, we are now on track to be self-sustaining towards the end of this year.  If it were not for the more than gracious love and welfare of Chelsea's parents, Jon and Kelli, we certainly would have been in a much different place and a world of hurt.  Thank you Jon and Kelli for being a covering for us during this time.

Thank you again for partnership in Faith and Friendship.  We look forward to the unfolding of this year with Joy and Peace, knowing that He - always - is in Control.

We love you and bless you in Jesus Name!

Greetings from the Golden Shore!

Hello friends!

It’s been nearly 6 weeks since we emailed and shipped out of Asheville, NC. We are now here, back on the Golden Coast, aka California and slowly adapting and adjusting to the many changes around us. For starters, we are now well into the third trimester of Chelsea’s pregnancy, currently staying with her parents who have so graciously allowed us to “land” in California while we get our feet and bearings settled on the next step(s), greatly missing our home in Asheville. That leads us to…

david and chelsea…Ministry. Both Josh and David have really sought the Lord about what the future of ministry is to look like, specifically will it be part-time or full-time? Thankfully, while in Oceanside for family vacation, David got the chance to meet with Paul Webster who works for Exodus International.  He got connected to Paul through a mutual contact David got know at “Launch” in Vegas back in May.

Through the conversation with Paul and his wife, the Lord made many things clear to David. First, we seem to be on the right track. There was peace, encouragement, and an acknowledgment of “no, you’re not crazy”. Second, it became apparent that, at least for now, this is to be a part-time ministry. With that…

…we are actively praying and tentatively planning out what our first step as a part-time ministry will look. We have reached out to another formal, full-time ministry that serves those leaving the homosexual lifestyle with the prospect/proposal of partnership. This is a very recent development and we are still seeing what fruit this will yield. Please pray as we seek out this ministerial relationship as it would certainly provide much clarity, whether or not it pans out, as to what the next steps for us would look like.

With that revelation, David is actively pursuing a career back in his first love (after Jesus and Chelsea), politics. It is something that has always been a heart passion of his and something he fully enjoys and feels fulfilled in. We are fully trusting that God has brought about this desire, in accordance with His Word and Will, and that He will see it to fruition soon. It is our true hope that David will get a job working in the State Capitol by the elections in November.

God has already made some good in-roads and provided several interviews and positive leads. It’s really up to Him as well as our trust in Him and His timing. It would be easy to run out and get a “job” but David’s heart truly is set on this as God’s best. We are keeping our ear to Heaven though - trusting that indeed, as His sheep, we hear His Voice should David be searching elsewhere for employment. Please pray for ALL the fruit of the Spirit to mature and grow in each of our lives in this season of waiting. Specifically, pray for a job working with legislation for a Legislator of integrity, in the State Capitol, by November (if not earlier). Pray for dreams and visions to lead us in the way we should go and to counsel us as God’s eye is on us.

Also, pray for us regarding provision and trust in this time of waiting. David felt before leaving NC that God would provide in mysterious ways outside of a typical job, i.e. gifts, random checks, money from people we do not know, etc.

This all been the case, with the latest from someone we have never interacted with before from the UK that wants to sow into our ministry. All of this is very trying for our faith but in the end amazing and we are so humbled and blessed that God is proving Himself faithful despite the lies and attacks of the enemy - of which that continues to be a regular battle. So, we invite you, as Holy Spirit inspires you, to give to our cause and need. We know He WILL provide for ALL of our needs according to HIS riches in glory. You may do so simply through clicking the PayPal link at the bottom of this email. Our expenses are approximately $1000 p/month at this time.

Finally, as we prepare to launch out, please let us know if you or someone or some church you know would be interested in having Josh and David come speak to your/their congregation, staff, small groups, etc, etc. We are open to the Spirit as to where He would have us be and when. Feel free to email David at nelsonwriter@gmail.com to inquire. Thank you SO much for your partnership this far. It is so exciting and nervous all at the same time. We trust and believe that He who began the good work will be faithful to complete it.

May God bless you in and out of season, for His Name’s sake. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Sincerely,

david and chelsea
